Round Rock Defeats Toledo 10-7 in Series Finale

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The E-Train opened the bottom half of the first inning with a pair of walks, setting up 2B Justin Foscue’s second RBI single of the year. 3B Cody Freeman then grounded into a fielder’s choice and 1B Blaine Crim scored from second on a Mud Hens throwing error, as Round Rock jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
LF Ben Gamel led off the second with a double for Toledo. Gamel moved to third on a wild pitch from Round Rock RHP Dane Dunning and scored on C Eliezer Alfonzo’s single to right. With bases loaded and nobody out, 2B Riley Unroe tied the ball game with a sacrifice fly, scoring 1B Bligh Madris from third.
In his first at-bat of the year, DH Konner Piotto doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the second. LF Kellen Strahm followed with a single then Piotto scored on CF Evan Carter’s base hit to left. Crim grounded into a 5-4-3 double play as Strahm crossed home, extending the Round Rock lead to 4-2.
In the top half of the third, Gamel recorded his second hit of the day, an RBI single scoring SS Andrew Navigato, who led off the inning with a walk.
The fourth inning saw Unroe hit his first home run of the year with a solo shot to right, tying it up at 4-4.
Foscue recorded his second RBI of the day with a groundout to the pitcher that would score CF Evan Carter from third. But it would be SS Alan Trejo to break it open with his bases-clearing double off the wall, boosting the E-Train lead to 8-4.
After a pair of walks in the sixth, Toledo CF Jack Dunn scored on a RHP Cole Winn throwing error following RF Jahmai Jones’ single.
Carter and Strahm walked to open the bottom half of the frame. Crim sent them home on a double down the left side, taking the Express to double digits at 10-5.
The Mud Hens added two runs in the top of the eighth as Madris scored on a flyout and Alfonzo came around on Jones’ second base hit. The Express held a 10-7 lead through the ninth inning to secure the win.

WHOLE SQUAD READY: The Express saw seven batters record a base hit in Sunday’s win. Seven different players scored a run for the Express, led by CF Evan Carter (3) and LF Kellen Strahm (2).
CRIM OF THE CROP: 1B Blaine Crim wrapped up the series with 13 base hits against the Mud Hens, six of which went for extra-bases. He was responsible for 15 of Round Rock’s 40 runs.
STREAKING: After going 2-for-3 on Sunday, Crim now boasts a 14-game hitting streak dating back to last year. 2B Justin Foscue recorded a hit in each game played against the Mud Hens, giving him a five-game streak heading into the series against the Oklahoma City Comets.
