HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sugar Land jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run homer off the bat of CF Jacob Melton.

The Express responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame. CF Aaron Zavala drew a leadoff walk and SS Richie Martin followed with a single through the left side. Both runners moved up with stolen bases and then scored on C Omar Narváez’s single, tying the game at two apiece.

The Space Cowboys took another lead with three runs in the second. After singles from SS Edwin Díaz and LF Kenedy Corona, 2B Brice Matthews belted a three-run home run to make it 5-2.

In the third, Round Rock 2B Alex De Goti’s throwing error allowed Sugar Land 3B Shay Whitcomb to reach and advance to second. 1B Jon Singleton later drove him in with a single, adding another run.

Matthews recorded his second home run of the day in the top of the fourth. The second baseman’s two-run shot gave Sugar Land a six-run advantage.

Díaz led off the seventh with a 422-foot homer and the ninth with a 394-foot homer, extending the Space Cowboys’ lead to 10-2, which stood final.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

FINDING HIS GROOVE: OF Aaron Zavala went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a walk on Sunday afternoon, extending his hitting streak to six games. The outfielder recorded his first RBI and home run at the Triple-A level this week, finishing the series with a .273/.407/.591/.998 slash line.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Express finished the 2025 season with a 41-34 record at Dell Diamond. Since 2005, Round Rock has won 40 home games in nine different seasons while achieving the feat in three of their last four. The E-Train pitching staff struck out 675 batters at home, which ranks fourth in club history and second among PCL clubs this season. Their 4.29 ERA at home was the second best in the league.
