Round Rock Hangs On, Beats Salt Lake 3-2 on Saturday

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the bottom of the first, Round Rock 1B Abimelec Ortiz got aboard with a two-out single setting up RF Trevor Hauver’s 11^th home run of the year. The 393-foot blast gave the Express an early 2-0 edge.

Round Rock added another run in the third as 3B Alan Trejo scored on a two-out double from DH Omar Narváez, extending their lead to 3-0.

Salt Lake LF Yolmer Sanchez drew a walk to lead off the top of the eighth. PH Tucker Flint drove Sanchez in with a double, cutting the Bees’ deficit to two.

In the ninth, Salt Lake 1B Carter Kieboom got aboard with a leadoff single and later advanced to second on a RHP Jose Ruiz balk. 2B Cavan Biggio drove Kieboom in with a base hit, bringing the Bees within one. Ruiz retired the next two batters, giving the Express a 3-2 victory.

HARRIS’ HITTING STREAK: CF Dustin Harris now has a hit in 13 consecutive games after going 2-for-4 with a walk on Saturday night. He is slashing .411/.468/.589/1.057 with eight doubles, a triple, four RBI, ten runs, six walks, eight strikeouts and five stolen bases during the streak. The outfielder has recorded multiple hits in eight of his last nine games. Harris is also batting .378 (17-45) with a 1.029 OPS in 10 games against the Bees this year.

LIKE MIKE: LHP Michael Plassmeyer earned his team-leading seventh win of the year on Saturday night. The left-hander threw six scoreless innings allowing two hits and striking out seven without issuing a walk. Plassmeyer did not allow a baserunner to reach third base. The southpaw finished August with a 3.46 ERA (10 ER/26.0 IP) while striking out 23 batters and walking three for a 7.67 K/BB ratio.
