HOW IT HAPPENED:

The River Cats opened the night with a pair of singles from RF Wade Meckler and DH Jesus Rodriguez. The two advanced on 1B Bryce Eldridge’s flyout then Meckler came home on a CF Luis Matos groundout. LF Marco Luciano hit a double down the left field line and Rodriguez scored to make it 2-0.

Sacramento C Sam Huff led off the top of the second with a home run to center field. The River Cats led 3-0.

Round Rock got on the board in the bottom of the third as 2B Justin Foscue drew a bases-loaded walk. CF Dustin Harris trotted home and the Express trailed 3-1.

After the third, Round Rock had one base hit and did not have a baserunner reach third base. Sacramento took the series opener, 3-1.

SCORING MACHINE: Round Rock CF Dustin Harris went 0-for-4 and scored a run after reaching on a fielder’s choice. Harris has now scored a run in 11 consecutive games. He is one of three players in club history to score a run in 11 consecutive games (INF Davis Wendzel, 13, and INF Jack Mayfield, 14). Oklahoma City OF James Outman holds the PCL’s longest streak this year with a run in 12 straight games.

FREEMAN ON FIRE: 3B Cody Freeman went 2-for-4 on Tuesday night marking his fifth consecutive game with multiple hits. Freeman has not struck out in his last 37 plate appearances. Since the second half of the season began on June 23, he is slashing .407/.448/.708/1.156 with seven doubles, nine home runs, 24 RBI, 26 runs scored, nine walks and eight strikeouts. He leads the Pacific Coast League in batting average (.332) and ranks third in hits (124), third in total bases (203), fifth in runs scored (74) and 10th in RBI (69).

PLASS: LHP Michael Plassmeyer issued one walk and struck out a season-high eight batters while allowing three runs on four hits in 5.2 innings on Tuesday night. Round Rock’s starter has thrown at least 5.0 innings in six of his last eight outings. After C Sam Huff’s home run to start the second, Plassmeyer retired 14 of the next 15 batters he faced.
