Round Rock RHP Jose Corniell Promoted to Texas

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Welcome to The Show, Jose! The Texas Rangers selected the contract of Round Rock Express RHP Jose Corniell on Friday, September 26. Corniell appeared in the Rangers regular season finale on Sunday at Progressive Field against the Cleveland Guardians. He tossed 1.2 innings out of the bullpen while allowing four runs and three earned runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

His first major league strikeout came against Cleveland 3B Daniel Schneeman. Corniell was promoted to Round Rock on September 2. The 22-year-old made three starts for the Express and owned a 3.65 ERA (5 ER/12.1 IP) with six walks and 14 strikeouts. He did not return to the mound in July this season after undergoing Tommy John ligament replacement surgery in June of last year.

His best start with the Express came on September 13 at Dell Diamond against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. He went 5.1 scoreless frames with two hits, one walk and five strikeouts to collect his first Triple-A victory.

Corniell is listed as the Rangers No. 3 (MLB Pipeline) and No. 9 (Baseball America) prospect. He earned the organization’s Nolan Ryan Pitcher of the Year award in 2023. He originally signed with the Seattle Mariners as an international free agent out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on July 2, 2019, but was acquired by Texas on December 15, 2020, in a trade with Seattle.
