Express Come Up Short Against Chihuahuas, 7-6

Round Rock Drops Series Finale to El Paso

ROUND ROCK, Tex. - BOX SCORE HOW IT HAPPENED: The Chihuahuas kicked off the first with three consecutive hits, including RF Yonathan Perlaza’s RBI single through the right side. 1B Nate Mondou later grounded into a double play but 2B Will Wagner came home, giving El Paso a 2-0 lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Chihuahuas kicked off the first with three consecutive hits, including RF Yonathan Perlaza’s RBI single through the right side. 1B Nate Mondou later grounded into a double play but 2B Will Wagner came home, giving El Paso a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, CF Michael Helman was hit by a pitch and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. DH Trevor Hauver sent Helman around with a single and SS Alan Trejo hit a go-ahead two-run homer to left. Trejo’s 10th home run of the year made it 3-2 after one.

In the bottom of the third, Express LF Cody Freeman hit a ground-rule double and 1B Justin Foscue drew a walk. Hauver cleared the bags with a 414-foot home run, doubling Round Rock’s lead.

El Paso DH Rodolfo Durán hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth, cutting their deficit to three runs.

The Chihuahuas tied it up in the top of the sixth with three runs on two hits. Perlaza’s leadoff walk set up a two-run home run from C Luis Campusano. Durán tallied his second RBI of the night dropping a single into center that sent McCoy home to tie it at six apiece.

In the top of the ninth, El Paso SS Mason McCoy gave the Chihuahuas a 7-6 lead with his leadoff home run.

The Express loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning via C Cooper Johnson’s single and walks from LF Alex De Goti and 1B Konner Piotto, but El Paso RHP Manuel Castro got out of the jam, forcing a 2B Justin Foscue flyout. Castro earned his first save of the season and the Chihuahuas took the series with a 7-6 win on Sunday.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

ALAN’S ON IT: Round Rock INF Alan Trejo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the series finale. Trejo capped off the series slashing .313/.421/.563 with a double, a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, three walks and five strikeouts in five games.

ROBBY IN RELIEF: Round Rock LHP Robby Ahlstrom threw 2.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen without a hit or a walk while striking out one batter. Ahlstrom has held opponents scoreless in 21 of his 33 outings this year. The southpaw has allowed just three extra-base hits in his last 10 outings and the last home run he surrendered came on June 28th.
