Round Rock Drops Saturday Contest with El Paso, 5-2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the top of the first, El Paso CF Clay Dungan drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on LF Yonathan Perlaza’s single. DH Luis Campusano drove the two in with a double to left-center and the Chihuahuas led 2-0 after one.

El Paso 2B Nate Mondou belted a three-run homer in the top of the fifth, extending the Chihuahuas’ lead to 5-0.

Round Rock got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. CF Michael Helman led off with a double and 3B Cody Freeman sent him around on a base hit to center. LF Trevor Hauver later recorded a sacrifice fly that scored Freeman, cutting the Express deficit to three.

The Chihuahuas allowed just two baserunners in the final three frames and held on for a 5-2 win. El Paso has won three of five this week at Dell Diamond and will look for a series victory tomorrow.

FOSCUE FEELING IT: Round Rock 1B Justin Foscue went 2-for-4 on Saturday night, moving his on-base streak to eight consecutive games. Foscue has struck out just three times in 52 plate appearances with the Express since July 10. Among Round Rock’s active hitters, the infielder trails only INF Cody Freeman with a .457 slugging percentage this season.

PEYTON’S POSTING BLANKS: RHP Peyton Gray notched his 16^th scoreless outing, allowing just two hits and a walk in 2.0 innings out of the bullpen. Gray has allowed just five earned runs across 27.1 innings for a 1.65 ERA since June 3.
