Express Commit Three Errors, Fall to Chihuahuas 9-3

HOW IT HAPPENED:

El Paso CF Clay Dungan kicked off the first with a double and DH Yonathan Perlaza drew a walk. With runners on the corners, 1B Luis Campusano grounded out and Dungan came home to put the Chihuahuas on the board. 2B Nate Mondou drove a single into center that sent Perlaza around from second to make it 2-0.

The Express were blanked through the first four innings, but SS Richie Martin sparked the offense with a triple in the bottom of the fifth. El Paso 2B Nate Mondou’s error on a pop fly allowed Martin to score, cutting the E-Train deficit to one. Later, 1B Justin Foscue doubled off the wall in left-center scratching two more runs across for a 3-2 lead.

The Chihuahuas responded with five runs in the top of the sixth. SS Mason McCoy scored on a RF Ripken Reyes sacrifice bunt, Dungan tallied an RBI single and LF Tim Locastro cleared the bags with a triple into right. Campusano later capped off the inning and recorded his second RBI of the night on a single and El Paso led 7-3.

El Paso plated two more runs in the eighth as Perlaza recorded a sacrifice fly and Locastro scored on 3B Alan Trejo’s throwing error to make it 9-3.

The Chihuahuas held the Express to one hit in the final four frames on their way to tying the series with a 9-3 win on Friday night.

RICHIE ROCKS: Round Rock INF Richie Martin went 1-for-3 with a run scored on Friday night. Martin is slashing .375/.459/.594/1.053 with a double, three triples, four RBI, six runs scored, eight strikeouts, four walks and four stolen bases in his last 10 games.

ALEJANDRO ON A ROLL: Round Rock OF Alejandro Osuna led the Express with three hits and a run scored. Osuna has reached base in all of his 12 games with the Express this year, holding the team’s longest active streak. Six of his 12 hits have gone for extra bases and he has drawn 12 walks with 10 strikeouts.
