Round Rock LF Alejandro Osuna led off the bottom of the first with a walk and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. 3B Cody Freeman sent him around with a double down the line to put the Express on the board. 1B Blaine Crim hit a ground ball to El Paso SS Mason McCoy that couldn’t be fielded cleanly, and Freeman scored on the error. 2B Justin Foscue singled on the next pitch and RF Dustin Harris came home for a 3-0 lead after the first.
In the bottom of the third, Freeman launched a solo home run to left field. His fourth home run in two games extended the Round Rock advantage to 4-0.
El Paso LF Forrest Wall answered with a homer on the first pitch of the fourth inning. Wall’s fourth round-tripper of the year cut the Chihuahua’s deficit to 4-1.
An RBI single from El Paso 1B Tim Locastro and a bases-loaded walk drawn by C Cody Roberts brought the Chihuahuas within one in the top of the seventh.
Round Rock relievers RHP Peyton Gray and RHP Codi Heuer retired the final six batters in order as the Express took the series opener, 4-3.

CAN’T STOP CODY: Round Rock 3B Cody Freeman finished a triple shy of the cycle after going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs on Tuesday night. Freeman now has five extra-base hits in his last nine at-bats dating back to Sunday’s series finale at Tacoma when he recorded three home runs. The infielder is tied for second in the Pacific Coast League with a .322 average. He also ranks sixth in total bases (174), eighth in hits (105), and 10th in runs (65).
CARL JR.: RHP Carl Edwards Jr. earned his first win with the E-Train allowing two hits and a run in 6.0 innings of work. Edwards Jr. struck out eight batters and issued one walk in his second start with Round Rock.
ROUND ROCK ROUND-TRIPPERS: After 3B Cody Freeman’s round-tripper in the third inning, the Express have now homered in 12 consecutive games while also hitting at least one 17 of 19 games this month. They lead the league with 33 home runs in the month of July.
