Express Bounce Back, Beat Isotopes 5-3

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Round Rock CF Dustin Harris led off the bottom of the first with a home run to right field giving the Express a 1-0 advantage.

Albuquerque CF Sam Hilliard answered with a solo homer to tie it up in the second. An inning later, C Drew Romo gave the Isotopes the lead with a home run to left. Albuquerque led 2-1 after two.

In the fourth, Round Rock SS Alan Trejo hit an RBI ground-rule double before C Konner Piotto put the Express ahead with a two-run home run. Later, DH Blaine Crim drove Harris in with a single for a 5-2 E-Train lead.

After trading three scoreless frames, Albuquerque 3B Aaron Schunk belted a solo homer in the eighth, cutting the Isotopes deficit to 5-3. Round Rock RHP Codi Heuer shut the door in the top of the ninth with a pair of strikeouts as the Express earned a 5-3 win.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

ONE-TAKE DRAKE: Round Rock LHP Kohl Drake earned his first career Triple-A win after replacing the rehabbing RHP Jon Gray in the third inning. After surrendering a home run to the first batter he faced, the lefty did not allow a baserunner to reach second the rest of the way with two walks and two strikeouts through 5.0 innings of work.

PITCHING DOMINANCE: The Round Rock pitching staff allowed just three hits in Wednesday’s win, the fewest since holding Reno to two hits on May 31.

HEAPING HELPING OF HARRIS: CF Dustin Harris went 2-for-2 with a home run, an RBI, two runs scored and two walks on Wednesday night. Harris now has three multi-hit games in July. He’s slashing .348/.448/.609 in six games this month with two homers, four RBI, four walks, five strikeouts and five runs.
