Lillie's Library Challenge

All-new for the 2026 season, the Birmingham Barons are excited to introduce Lillie's Library Challenge, a program designed to inspire and encourage kids across Central Alabama to develop a love for reading. Lillie Mays is challenging local K–8 students to knock it out of the park by reading four books!

All participating students will receive a free Barons bookmark, and those who reach their reading goal will earn two (2) free Barons game tickets for a Lillie’s Library Challenge Night at Regions Field! Students who redeem their tickets for one of the designated reading nights will also have the opportunity to take part in a special on-field pregame parade to celebrate their achievement.

Schools with full student participation will also be eligible for a special school assembly featuring Lillie Mays herself, bringing the Barons favorite mascot and plenty of baseball fun straight to your school!

Lillie's Library Challenge is open to all K–8 students in schools across Central Alabama who want to step up to the plate and develop a love for reading.

October 21, 2025: School Registration Opens
January 12, 2026: Reading Challenge Officially Begins for Students
January 12 – March 16, 2026: Barons Mascot and Staff Available for Booking at School Assemblies (Visits must take place in January, February, or March, are not guaranteed and subject to availability. Must be within a 25-mile radius of Regions Field

School facilitators can set a timeline and deadline that best fit their curriculum to guide students in completing the four-book challenge. Lillie's Library Game Night Dates will be posted once available.

Lillie Mays is challenging students to read four books in four weeks. Students who complete the challenge will receive two complimentary Barons tickets to a Lillie's Library Challenge Night at Regions Field. All participating students will also receive a free Barons bookmark featuring Lillie Mays to help them keep their place as they read.

Students who attend their reading program date with their earned tickets will also have the opportunity to enter the ballpark early to participate in pre-game parade and photo op!

The pregame parade begins approximately 45 minutes before first pitch. Details about where and when to line up will be shared with families ahead of their scheduled game night.

Once a student finishes the challenge by reading four books, parents can redeem their child’s complimentary tickets by clicking the “Redeem Your Voucher” button and filling out the registration form.

Parents will also have the option to purchase additional tickets for family members to join in on the fun and cheer on their reader at Regions Field during their parade.

Schools with full school wide participation will be eligible for a special school assembly featuring Lillie Mays and Babe Ruff, the Barons mascots, bringing plenty of baseball excitement straight to their school! Assemblies must take place within a 25-mile radius of Regions Field and are subject to availability in January, February, or March 2026. Assemblies are not guaranteed and will be scheduled based on availability.
