Worcester (72-71, 31-38) scored first in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Abraham Toro singled. Jhostynxon Garcia followed with a two-run home run over the right-field wall that gave the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.
Syracuse (73-71, 42-27) did not get a hit in the game's first five innings, but that changed in the bottom of the sixth. First, Matt O'Neill, Jett Williams, and Ryan Clifford all worked walks to load the bases with no outs. Jared Young then popped out for the first out of the frame. Carson Benge followed with a groundball to second base that was nearly an inning-ending double play, but Benge beat the throw to first base, reaching on a fielder's choice that scored O'Neill from third base to trim the Syracuse deficit to one, 2-1. Jose Azocar followed with a double to the wall in right-center field, scoring Williams and Benge to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. Kevin Parada added on with a single to bring home Azocar for a 4-2 Syracuse advantage.
The Mets extended their lead in the seventh. Williams worked a one-out walk, and Clifford singled, putting runners at first and second. After Young struck out, Benge lined a two-out double to left field, scoring Williams and Clifford to give Syracuse a 6-2 edge. Azocar knocked in Benge with an RBI single as the Mets went in front 7-2. Five of Syracuse's six hits on Sunday came with two outs.
Meanwhile, the Syracuse pitched staff held strong. The Worcester two-run home run in the fourth inning brought home the only runs against Justin Hagenman in four innings pitched. Alex Carrillo followed with two scoreless innings, Oliver Ortega added two scoreless frames, and Chris Devenski pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the Syracuse win.
The Mets have an off day on Monday before Syracuse begins a six-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday to end the 2025 regular season. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
