Trey Gibson named Orioles’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year

BOWIE, MD (September 26, 2025) – Former Chesapeake Baysox right-handed pitcher Trey Gibson was named by the Baltimore Orioles as the club’s 2025 Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Gibson pitched in 26 games (25 starts) between High-A Aberdeen, Double-A Chesapeake and Triple-A Norfolk. The 23-year-old posted a 5-8 record with a 4.26 ERA in 120.1 innings pitched with 166 strikeouts over 44 walks allowed. Among Orioles’ minor league pitchers, he finished first in strikeouts and fourth in innings pitched. Among all minor league pitchers, he finished tied for fourth in strikeouts.

The Yorktown, Va. native began the season in High-A Aberdeen and struck out 67 batters over his first nine appearances, tied for the South Atlantic League lead. In his final start with the IronBirds on June 1 in Brooklyn, he struck out a career-high 13 batters in six innings and eventually earned promotion to Double-A Chesapeake on June 3.
In 10 starts with the Baysox, Gibson posted a 3-2 record with a 1.55 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched with 68 strikeouts over 18 walks allowed and a 0.90 WHIP. Gibson allowed just one earned run through his first 13.2 innings pitched at Double-A. On July 2 at Richmond, Gibson fired seven scoreless, one-hit innings with six strikeouts for his first career complete game shutout. On July 25 at Altoona, Gibson threw seven scoreless innings and struck out eight. Those two performances earned him Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors. In his final Double-A start on August 7 in Akron, he matched his Double-A high with nine strikeouts across six shutout innings and eventually earned promotion to Triple-A Norfolk on August 12.

Gibson’s 166 strikeouts are the most by an Orioles farmhand since Cade Povich (171) in 2023. He was signed by the Orioles as an undrafted free agent in August 2023 out of Liberty. Baseball America ranks Gibson as the No. 8 Orioles prospect and MLB Pipeline ranks him as the No. 12 Orioles prospect.
