Rainiers Sweep Express with Walk-Off Home Run

TACOMA, Wash. – BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Express took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Round Rock worked two walks to begin the frame and DH Sam Haggerty singled allowing RF Kellen Strahm to score.

LF Samad Taylor put the Rainiers on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Rainiers their first hit and run of the day to tie things at one.

The Express broke the tie in the top of the seventh as Haggerty drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on a ground out from Strah. He then scored on a RHP Shintaro Fujinami wild pitch as the E-Train led 2-1.

Tacoma SS Leo Rivas launched his second hit and home run of the series to send the game into another tie in the bottom of the eighth.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Rainiers put two runners on after singles from C Harry Ford and 3B Ben Wiliamson. With one out, 1B Austin Shenton sent a three-run home run over the right field wall, securing the three-game sweep for Tacoma on opening weekend.

CRIM HIT STREAK: With two singles on Sunday, 1B Blaine Crim boasts an eight-game hitting streak dating back to last year. Crim has posted a .333/.417/.750 slash-line to start the season after going 4-for-12 this weekend.

LOOKING FOR A BIG HIT: The Express finished the opening series batting 3-for-26 with runners in scoring position while leaving 26 men on base. They are the lone PCL club without a home run through three games.

HOUSER ON THE HILL: RHP Adrian Houser held Tacoma hitless through 4.2 innings in his first start of 2025. Houser’s final line included 5.0 innings with one earned run on one hit, one walk and five strikeouts.
