RF Sam Haggerty got the Express rolling with a single on the first pitch of the game. DH Blaine Crim brought him home with a base hit to right field and Round Rock led 1-0.
Reno responded in the bottom half of the frame. 1B Trey Mancini put the Aces on the board with a RBI single. A RBI double from 3B Tristin English gave them a 2-1 lead.
Round Rock tied the ballgame at 2-2 in the top of the second. Haggerty singled for a second time scoring LF Alex De Goti, who walked earlier in the inning.
RF A.J. Vukovich gave Reno another lead, launching a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the second.
English doubled and DH Blaze Alexander sent him home with a two-out RBI single, extending the Aces’ lead to 4-2 in the third.
In the fourth, SS Jordan Lawlar pushed a bunt for a single to the right side and CF Cristian Pache scored from third.
Crim smashed his fifth homer of the year in the top of the fifth inning. The two-run blast cut Round Rock’s deficit to 5-4.
Reno C Aramis Garcia also belted a home run in the bottom half of the fifth. The solo shot moved their lead to 6-4.
Round Rock stole the lead in the sixth inning behind a SS Alan Trejo two-run triple and a De Goti RBI double, bringing the score to 7-6.
Lawlar sent a towering home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the eighth for the Aces and the game was tied at 7-7.
After the clubs traded zeroes in the ninth, the Express moved to extras for the fourth time this year. Trejo sent a fly ball to center field in the 10th and Barnhart scored on the sacrifice fly. Reno countered with a single from Alexander that scored 2B Ildemaro Vargas in the bottom of the inning.
Foscue smashed his sixth extra-base hit of the series with a double off the wall in the bottom of the 11th. Carter came around to score and the Express led 9-8.
Despite allowing two singles in the 11th, LHP Michael Plassmeyer shut the door and earned his first win with the E-Train. The 9-8 victory secured the series for Round Rock 4-2.
E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:
SWIPING BAGS: RF Sam Haggerty and LF Alex De Goti each stole a base in Sunday’s win. The Express hold a .875 stolen base percentage which ties the Sacramento River Cats for the best rate in the Pacific Coast League.
JUSTIN TIME: 1B Justin Foscue finished the series in Reno batting .407 (11-27) with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Foscue is tied with Salt Lake OF Gustavo Campero for the most hits in the PCL (29).
WHOLE SQUAD: Eight of Round Rock’s nine batters recorded a base hit in the series finale. The E-Train’s top four batters of Haggerty, CF Evan Carter, Foscue and DH Blaine Crim combined to bat 7-for-20 with five RBI.
EXTRA-BASES FOR ALAN: SS Alan Trejo went 1-for-4 with a triple on Sunday. Nine of his 14 hits this year have gone for extra bases.
