Express Fall in Walk-Off Fashion to Chihuahuas

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Round Rock would opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the third. El Paso LHP Kyle Hart recorded two quick outs but the E-Train put two on with a SS Jonathan Ornelas single and a walk from 1B Jake Burger. 1B Justin Foscue scorched a double to the left field wall scoring Ornelas and Burger and the Express led 2-0.

In his E-Train debut, LHP Ty Blach threw six scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out six. The Express added another run in the seventh. DH Konner Piotto drew a walk and then stole second. Chad Wallach came in as a pinch-runner after Piotto was injured on the steal. Burger dropped a single into right and Wallach came around moving the lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the inning, El Paso SS Eguy Rosario got aboard with a single and 2B Clay Dungan belted a triple down the right field line. Rosario came around on the triple and the Chihuahuas trailed 3-1.An inning later, El Paso tied it up with two runs on two hits. LF Oscar Gonzalez singled then C Luis Campusano launched his seventh homer of the season and knotted it up at 3-3.

Rosario led off the ninth reaching on a throwing error from 3B Cody Freeman. INF Nate Mondou pinch-hit for 3B Mike Brosseau and laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Rosario to second. The E-Train intentionally walked Dungan before CF Bryce Johnson drew a walk to load the bases. RHP Cole Winn struck out RF Tirso Ornelas but LF Oscar Gonzalez was the hero with a walk-off single. Gonzalez snuck a groundball up the middle and Rosario scored the winning run for a 4-3 Chihuahuas victory.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

TY’S E-TRAIN DEBUT: LHP Ty Blach made his debut for the Express as the starting pitcher on Friday night. Blach held the Chihuahuas without a run through six complete innings. He allowed just four hits with a walk while striking out six.

JONATHAN, JAKE AND JUSTIN: Round Rock’s first three batters of SS Jonathan Ornelas, 1B Jake Burger and 2B Justin Foscue accounted for all the E-Train’s runs on Friday night. The trio compiled four hits and just one strikeout. Foscue recorded two RBI and Burger also drove in a run.
