Express Drop Series, Chihuahuas Earn 14-8 Victory

The Express grabbed a 1-0 lead with two hits in the second. 1B Justin Foscue led off with a double and SS Jonathan Ornelas sent him around with a single into left field.
El Paso answered with a run in the bottom half of the second. 3B Nate Mondou and SS Eguy Rosario drew a pair of walks and the two advanced on a C Rodolfo Durán sacrifice bunt. 2B Forrest Wall hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Mondou scored the tying run.
The Chihuahuas broke it open with seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the third. 2B Clay Dungan and LF Bryce Johnson both singled to start the inning. DH Oscar Gonzalez hit a double off the left field wall and Dungan came around to score. Johnson later scored on a RF Yonathan Perlaza ground out. Mondou hit a sacrifice fly to left allowing Gonzalez to tag up and score. SS Eguy Rosario punched a single through the right side sending 1B Trenton Brooks around from second. Durán hit a double into the left-center gap and Rosario scored. Wall capped off the inning with a two-run homer and El Paso led 8-1 after three.
In the fifth, El Paso added three more runs. Mondou got aboard with a single and Rosario drew a walk. Durán recorded his second double of the night sending Mondou and Rosario home. Dungan hit a triple into the left-center gap and Durán scored to make it 11-1.
Round Rock 1B Jake Burger belted his first Express homer in the top of the sixth. 3B Cody Freeman got on with a single then C Chad Wallach sent him around with a base hit into left field. LF Alex De Goti reached on a throwing error by Mondou and Ornelas came home on the play, cutting the E-Train deficit to 11-4.
El Paso matched Round Rock with three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Perlaza hit a two-run home run and Rosario notched an RBI double extending their lead to 14-4.
The Express plated a run on three hits in the seventh. DH Kyle Higashioka doubled and Foscue followed with a single. Freeman scorched his 11th double of the season and sent Higashioka home.
In the eighth, Round Rock put two runners on and Burger tallied his second RBI of the night with a single to left. De Goti scored and the Express trailed 14-6.
The Express scratched a pair of runs across in the ninth. De Goti scorched a line drive up the middle and Ornelas came around. With the bases juiced, CF Kellen Strahm hit a sacrifice fly to center and Wallach scored the final run of the night. The Chihuahuas stunted the E-Train rally and secured the series with a 14-8 win.
E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:
OFFENSE EXPLODES: Six of Round Rock’s nine batters recorded a multi-hit night while matching their season-high of 15 hits on Saturday night. SS Jonathan Ornelas and 3B Cody Freeman each had three hits and an RBI.
CAN’T KEEP HIM AWAY: 3B Cody Freeman extended his on-base streak to nine games with a 3-for-5 night that included a double and an RBI. Freeman is slashing .417/.462/.583 with six RBI, six runs scored and two strikeouts in the nine-game stretch.
HEUER IN RELIEF: RHP Codi Heuer made his 13th appearance on Saturday night which ties RHP Luis Curvelo for the club lead. Heuer induced three ground outs in his 1.0 inning of work for his 10th scoreless outing this season.
