Express Earn Fifth Win in Sixth Game This Week at Isotopes Park

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Albuquerque took an early lead with a trio of runs in the bottom of the first. The Isotopes put two runners on and CF Sam Hilliard delivered a RBI single up the middle. DH Keston Hiura then grounded out and 3B Owen Miller came home on the play. 1B Michael Toglia capped off the inning with a single into left sending Hilliard around from second and the Isotopes led 3-0.

The Express got on the board in the top of the second. DH Justin Foscue and LF Trevor Hauver drew walks to start the inning and the two advanced on SS Alan Trejo’s flyout. 3B Richie Martin grounded into a fielder’s choice but Foscue scored to make it 3-1.

In the bottom of the frame, Albuquerque RF Zac Veen hit a double into right that allowed SS Jose Torres to score from second.

Toglia recorded a solo homer an inning later and the Isotopes had a 5-1 advantage after three complete.

Round Rock went on to score five unanswered runs across the next two frames. In the fourth, 1B Abimelec Ortiz scored on Hauver’s single then RF Kellen Strahm drove in a pair of runs with his two-out single to left to tie the game at five.

The Express kicked off the fifth by loading the bases and Trejo hit a sacrifice fly to right. Two pitches later, Martin poked a single through the right side to give the E-Train a 6-5 lead.

Strahm gave Round Rock an insurance run with a 447-foot home run to start the eighth. CF Dustin Harris then drew a walk and 2B Cody Freeman got aboard with a base hit, setting up Ortiz’s RBI single. Hauver broke it open with a three-run homer giving the Express a six-run lead. Round Rock 10 unanswered runs, winning 11-5 on Saturday night.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

ALAN STAYS HOT: SS Alan Trejo finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk. In five games in this series, he is slashing .400 (8-20)/.435/.850 with three home runs, seven RBI, four runs scored, two walks and a strikeout. Trejo appeared with Albuquerque from 2021-2023. In 84 games in this ballpark for his career, he has slashed .343/.372/.704 with 33 doubles, six triples, 24 home runs, 81 RBI, 67 runs scored, 17 walks and 68 strikeouts.

BATS ARE HOT: The Round Rock offense tallied their fourth game this week with at least 10 hits. They are batting .327 (68-208) with a .989 OPS in six games against the Isotopes. 2B Cody Freeman, 1B Abimelec Ortiz and SS Alan Trejo lead the club with eight hits apiece while Ortiz has a team-high 13 RBI and eight runs scored in his first five games at the Triple-A level.

STRAHM BOMB: RF Kellen Strahm went 2-for-4 with a walk and a three-run homer on Saturday night. Strahm’s 447-foot home run in the eighth inning was the longest tracked ball of his professional career and the E-Train’s second-farthest home run this season.

DIRTY CRAIG: RHP Craig Kimbrel made his 21st appearance for the E-Train with a scoreless ninth inning on Saturday. Kimbrel has held opponents to a .189 average with just seven hits and three earned runs in his last 12 outings.
