Express Win Fourth Consecutive Game as Offense Collects 21 Hits

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Isotopes opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Albuquerque 1B Blaine Crim grounded out with runners on the corners, sending 2B Braiden Ward home from third. The next batter, DH Keston Hiura, got aboard with an infield single and 3B Owen Miller scored for a 2-0 advantage.

Round Rock tied it up in the fourth as SS Michael Helman singled and RF Abimelec Ortiz belted a 433-foot homer bringing the score to two apiece.

In the top of the fifth, DH Jake Burger gave the E-Train its first lead of the night with a two-run home run to make it 4-2.

Albuquerque responded in the bottom of the frame. Hiura recorded a sacrifice fly and LF Sterlin Thompson hit a solo shot, tying the game at four.

The Express plated five runs in the fifth inning with two-run homers from 2B Alan Trejo and LF Cody Freeman bookending CF Dustin Harris’ RBI single. Round Rock led 9-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

The Isotopes got a run back in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run off the bat of SS Jose Torres.

Round Rock scratched another run across in the top of the eighth as Freeman scored on Helman’s force out.

In the ninth, Trejo led off with his second round-tripper of the night and Burger tallied a two-run double to finish the scoring for the Express.

Crim tallied a solo home run for Albuquerque in the bottom of the inning, but Round Rock RHP Craig Kimbrel struck out the side as the Express claimed the series in their 13-6 win at Isotopes Park.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

BLACKJACK: Round Rock recorded 21 hits on Thursday night, marking their third game this year with at least 21 hits. The Express join the Reno Aces as the only teams in all of Triple-A to achieve the feat in three different games this season.

EXTRA-BAGS FOR THE E-TRAIN: All of the E-Train’s nine starters recorded a hit in Thursday’s win. They tallied three doubles, a triple and five home runs for nine extra-base hits, which is their second-most in a game this year. Their five round-trippers tie their season-high from June 4 at Salt Lake.

TOP OF THE ORDER TO YA: The first four batters of CF Dustin Harris, 1B Jake Burger, LF Cody Freeman and DH Trevor Hauver went 13-for-22 with seven RBI and six runs. Harris and Burger each had a game-high four hits.

C-FREE STAYS HOT: Freeman finished 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. It was his 17th home run of the season. He is first in the PCL in batting average (.326) and seventh in OPS (.908) this year. Since May 23, he is third in the league in home runs (14).
