HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a 47-minute rain delay, the Aces opened the night with a pair of singles from LF Jake McCarthy and CF Jorge Barrosa. SS Blaze Alexander drove McCarthy in with a groundout and Reno led 1-0 in the first.

RF Cristian Pache doubled to lead off the third and roll the order. Alexander recorded another RBI with a single to right that sent Pache around. Later, C Michael Pérez singled up the middle and Barrosa scored for a 3-0 Aces advantage.

Reno put two on in the fourth with a pair of walks. Barrosa and DH Trey Mancini recorded RBI singles to extend Reno’s lead to 5-0. Round Rock got on the board with a run in the fourth. CF Dustin Harris led off with a double and LF Marcus Smith singled. RF Kellen Strahm grounded out but Harris scored to make it 5-1.

Express SS Alan Trejo doubled to kick off the bottom of the eighth. 3B Cody Freeman brought Round Rock within two with his fourth home run of the year, cutting the deficit to 5-3.

The E-Train added a run in the ninth as C Cooper Johnson singled then scored on DH Richie Martin’s single. Reno RHP Christian Montes De Oca stunted the Round Rock rally and earned his second save of the year in the Aces’ 5-4 win.

E-TRAIN EXCERPTS:

CODY: 3B Cody Freeman went 2-for-4 with a home run on Wednesday night. Freeman has four multi-hit games with a .409 (9-22) average and eight RBIs in his last five games. He recorded Round Rock’s two hardest hit balls on his two hits (94.6 mph, 95.4 mph).

NO FREE BASES: For just the second time this year, the Express were held without a walk. Round Rock leads the PCL with 124 walks in May but are 0-4 when drawing one walk or less.

PLASSMEYER: LHP Michael Plassmeyer threw 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Wednesday. The lefty gave up just two hits and a walk while striking out four. Plassmeyer owns a 1.50 ERA (3 ER/18.0 IP) in the month of May. He has dropped his ERA from 6.52 to 3.25 in six appearances this month.
