AMARILLO, TX – Canada. Neighbors to the North. Between trades, promotions and coaching staff, Amarillo now has three native Canadians on the roster with left-handed starter Mitch Bratt, right-handed reliever Eli Saul and catcher Gavin Logan. With 18 games left to play, Amarillo will lean on them to secure the Texas League South Division Second Half crown.

Saul is the longest tenured Canadian Sod Poodle, having made two previous appearances in 2023. Since his promotion on July 17 this season, the reliever from Vancouver, British Columbia, has been used as a high-leverage arm. The righty is having an excellent August, recording 10.1 innings across eight games in the month with a 2-0 record. He has struck out six and holds a 1.74 ERA. In his 22 appearances at Double-A this season, Saul has a sub-4.00 ERA (11 ER/25.1 IP), 22 punchouts and tallied his first victory at the level on August 5 at Midland. He has two holds with Amarillo, including one in his first outing on June 19 at Northwest Arkansas.

Hailing from Newmarket, Ontario, Bratt was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks from the Texas Rangers in the Merrill Kelly trade on Deadline Day. The southpaw was no stranger to the Yellow City, having pitched twice for Frisco (Double-A, Texas Rangers) this season at HODGETOWN prior to the trade. Bratt has made three starts for Amarillo since arriving on August 2 and was quite good in his Sod Poodles home debut. The lefty tossed five innings of one-run ball against Corpus Christi (Double-A, Houston Astros), while punching out seven. Bratt leads the Texas League with 127 strikeouts between his outings with Frisco and Amarillo. His total is tied for fifth among all Double-A arms in the 2025 season.

Logan is the newest Canadian to join the squad, having been assigned to the Sod Poodles on August 9. The catcher from Medicine Hat, Alberta, has seen action in nine games with Amarillo and has three hits. Logan became just the second Sod Poodle all-time to have his first Double-A hit be a triple, doing so on August 13 versus Corpus Christi. He has shown good plate discipline as well, drawing four walks and a hit-by-pitch. Logan has seen action at three levels in 2025, playing 33 games with High-A Hillsboro and 12 games with Triple-A Reno.

The Canadian representation stretches to the coaching staff as well. Serving as a bench coach is Jordan Procyshen. The Calgary, Alberta, native is in his first year as a coach in the Diamondbacks’ system and has primarily coached first base on manager Javier Colina’s staff this season.

Together, the Canadian transplants will play a huge role this week as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Double-A, Kansas City Royals) come to HODGETOWN. With their continued contributions, Amarillo have their sights set on securing the second half crown.
