Wappingers Falls, N.Y. (July 28, 2025) – Minor League Baseball (MiLB) has announced that Hudson Valley Renegades infielder Jose Colmenares has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for the Week of July 21-27. He becomes the fourth Renegades player to win a weekly award during the 2025 season, joining Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and Jace Avina who won Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, on April 28 and Alexander Vargas who won Player of the Week on June 30.
Colmenares, 23, was a key cog in the Renegades offensive machine during their series with the Rome Emperors at Heritage Financial Park. He batted .389/.476/.889 (7-for-18) at the plate with four runs, three doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs, three walks, five strikeouts and was 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. His three-run home run on Friday, July 25 were the lone runs in a 3-0 win by the Renegades. His 1.365 OPS led all SAL hitters this week.

“Jose was very impressive this week at the plate,” said Renegades hitting coach Tom DeAngelis. “He continues to improve week in and week out and his competitiveness continues to shine in big moments.”
Colmenares was signed by the New York Yankees as an international free agent on July 2, 2018 out of Cerro la Guacara, Venezuela. He is in his first season with the Renegades after missing the entire 2022 and 2024 seasons, and being limited to only 26 games with Single-A Tampa in 2023 due to injuries. Colmenares has remained healthy this year and has played in 79 games between the Renegades and Double-A Somerset at second base, third base and shortstop.
He has turned it on at the plate in the month of July, posting an .843 OPS, and is tied for with Coby Morales for the team lead on the season with 17 doubles, which is tied for eighth in the South Atlantic League yet just one behind a seven-player tie for first. This is the first weekly award won by Colmenares in his career.
