SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 29, 2025) — The San Diego Padres announced on Sunday that San Antonio Missions reliever Garrett Hawkins is their organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year for 2025. Hawkins earned a promotion to San Antonio from High-A Fort Wayne on Aug. 1 and finished the 2025 season with the Missions.

The 25-year-old went 9-1 overall with a 1.45 ERA in 45 games across 60 innings with only 23 walks and 80 strikeouts. In 13 games with the Missions, Hawkins allowed just three runs in 16 innings, going 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA while walking 10 and striking out 20.

Hawkins went from April 27 until Aug.12 without allowing a run. His 38.2 scoreless innings marked the longest scoreless stretch in Minor League Baseball since Blake Snell—the two-time Cy Young Award winner—threw 49 consecutive innings without a run in 2015 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization.

According to MLB.com, the Saskatoon, Canada native is ranked as the No. 18 prospect in the Padres’ system. The Padres drafted Hawkins in the ninth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of the University of British Columbia. Hawkins underwent Tommy John Surgery in August of 2023 and missed the entire 2024 season before returning in 2025.

Hawkins becomes the third straight Missions’ pitcher to be named Padres’ Pitcher of the Year. Henry Baez, who got traded while still with San Antonio to the Athletics on July 31 of 2025, won in 2024 while Robby Snelling, now a member of the Miami Marlins’ organization, won in 2023.
