Fort Myers, Fla. (August 1, 2025) - Michael Carpenter and Michael Ross led the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels to a 4-0 shutout win over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday night at Hammond Stadium.
Michael Carpenter started on the mound for Fort Myers (44-54, 17-17), and was excellent across four scoreless innings.
The left-hander allowed just one hit and punched out four Dunedin (47-48, 13-17) batters. Four innings pitched ties a season-high for Carpenter.
Michael Ross (4-4) took over from Carpenter in the top of the fifth inning, and faced the minimum after inducing a ground ball double play to end the frame.
Ross finished the night tossing the final five innings. He struck out four and issued one walk. Ross has now thrown 15 straight scoreless innings, dating back to July 20. The shutout win was the fifth of the season for Mussels’ pitching.
The Mussels broke through against Dunedin starter Austin Cates (5-3) in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Sprock recorded his first professional hit with one down in the inning, and advanced to second after Shai Robinson drew a walk.
Later in the frame with two outs, Twins 2025 first rounder Marek Houston laced an opposite field single to right-center to plate Sprock and give the Mussels a 1-0 lead. The single was the first hit of Houston’s professional career.
High-A rehabber Khadim Diaw was the next man to the plate, and he hammered a three-run homer onto the berm in left field to extend the Fort Myers advantage to 4-0.
The series between the Mussels and the Blue Jays continues on Saturday at Hammond Stadium. Twins No. 8 prospect Dasan Hill (0-1, 3.05) starts for Fort Myers, opposite Johnny King (1-1, 1.58) for Dunedin. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 5:45 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
