COLUMBUS, Ga., — At a ball park far, far away... the Columbus Clingstones' (11-13, 37-53) losing skid extended to three despite an eight-hit performance. The Chattanooga Lookouts (12-11, 50-39) spoiled Star Wars night and gave the Stones a 6-2 loss on Friday night at Synovus Park.
Friday night's contest was a resumption from July 24 after weather caused unplayable field conditions in the top half of the first. The slate for Friday night was originally supposed to be a doubleheader, however, a two-hour rain delay caused the second half of the double feature to be rescheduled for July 26th.
Decisive Plays: Play began at 7:05 P.M. on July 24, however, play would be suspended due to unplayable field conditions. Before the contest was paused, Cam Collier opened the scoring with a three-run double. After a nearly three-hour delay on Friday, July 25, play would resume and Lucas Braun would take the mound with two inherited runners, no outs, and a 3-0 deficit. Ethan O'Donnell plated Chattanooga's fourth run of the game with a sacrifice fly and Braun retired the side in order to get the Stones out of the first. The score would remain the same until O'Donnell's RBI single in the top of the third. The Stones struck back in the home half of the inning and David McCabe's RBI knock gave Columbus a new hope. Kobe Kato cut the deficit to three with an RBI double in the fifth. O'Donnell delivered the dagger by drawing a nine-pitch walk to give the Lookouts a 6-2 lead in the seventh.
Key Contributors: Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. (3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 SB) turned in one of his best offensive performances as a Stone and Adam Zebrowski (2-for-4) recorded the only other multi-hit performance for Columbus. Braun (6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO) shined in his second relief performance of his career.
Notable: Braun turned in the second relief outing of his career and first since May 18, 2024 with High-A Rome. Kilpatrick Jr. recorded his second three-hit game of his season and extended his hit streak to six games. Columbus has had eight of its 12 games against Chattanooga impacted by rain in some way this season.
