NORFOLK, Va.Kemp Alderman and Victor Mesa Jr. each blasted three-run home runs and Patrick Monteverde tossed 5.1 scoreless innings Thursday to lead the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to an 8-5 victory over the Norfolk Tides.

The game was scoreless until there were two outs in the top of the sixth inning. Norfolk (61-83, 31-40) starter Trey Gibson (1-4) yielded a double to Derek Hill before walking Griffin Conine. Alderman clobbered a three-run home run to break the scoreless tie and put Jacksonville (8-59, 41-31) in front.

The Jumbo Shrimp added to their lead in the seventh. Jack Winkler singled with one out and stole second. After a walk to Nathan Martorella, a passed ball coupled with an error scored Winkler to make it 4-0. Spencer Bramwell singled and then Mesa Jr. cracked a three-run shot to widen the gap to 7-0.

Bramwell doubled with one out in the ninth, scoring two batters later on a Matthew Etzel RBI base hit.

The Tides made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth. TT Bowens led off with a base hit. Two batters later, Ryan Noda ruined the shutout with a two-run shot. Maverick Handley walked and then Terrin Vavra singled. Livan Soto’s three-run bomb then brought Norfolk within 8-5, but they could get no closer.

Nigel Belgrave was perfect as an opener over 1.2 innings. Monteverde followed with 5.1 shutout frames and Dale Stanavich tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
