JUPITER, FL (September 4, 2025) – Jupiter Hammerheads starting pitcher Julio Mendez has been named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Month of August by Minor League Baseball. Mendez becomes the first and only Hammerhead to win a monthly award in the 2025 season.

During the month of August, Mendez finished with a record of 4-0 and an ERA of 0.72 in five starts allowing just two earned runs, four walks, and 13 hits in 25 innings. Mendez finished the month leading the FSL in wins, strikeouts (29), WHIP (0.68), and strikeout-to-walk ratio (7.25).

The month was highlighted on August 1st against the Palm Beach Cardinals when Mendez tossed five hitless and scoreless innings in a 5-3 victory. With that start, Mendez also earned his first weekly award earning Florida State League Pitcher of the Week awarded by Minor League Baseball on August 3rd.

This season with Class-A Jupiter, Mendez is 5-6 with a 3.70 ERA in 21 appearances and 19 starts. Across 87.2 innings, the lefty has recorded 90 strikeouts and held opponents to a .206 batting average and a 1.22 WHIP.

Mendez was signed by the Miami Marlins organization as an international free agent on June 1, 2022 out of Valencia, Venezuela. Mendez is scheduled for one more start for Jupiter in the regular season on Friday, September 5th against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (Class-A, Detroit) to close his 2025 campaign.
