FRISCO, Texas (September 12, 2025) – The Frisco RoughRiders erased a two-run deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning with a seven-run outburst, claiming a 12-7 win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Friday night from Riders Field.
Frisco (33-33, 71-63) took the lead for good in the eighth when Elih Marrero doubled to right field for his third hit of the night. Two runs came home to give Frisco an 8-7 advantage. Frainyer Chavez drew an RBI walk and Ian Moller added a pinch hit two-RBI double later in the inning.
The Riders jumped ahead in the first inning when Keith Jones II launched a grand slam to left field. The Riders had loaded the bases on singles by Chavez, Sebastian Walcott, and Luis Mieses.
Northwest Arkansas (33-34, 66-70) used a six-run inning in the third to take a 6-4 lead, which they held on to until the bottom of the eighth. Brett Squires doubled for the go-ahead two-RBI hit.
Avery Weems (4-1) allowed one unearned run in two innings of relief for Frisco to collect the win, and Emiliano Teodo struck out the side in the ninth. For the Naturals, Caden Monke (3-7) was charged with all seven runs in the eighth inning while recording one out, giving him the loss.
Danny Coulombe made a rehab appearance for the Riders, pitching a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth with one strikeout. The Riders also used scoreless innings of relief from Jackson Kelley and Bryan Magdaleno.
Winston Santos started for Frisco, lasting three innings. He allowed six runs, all in the third. He struck out the side in order in the first inning and faced the minimum in the second, but Northwest Arkansas recorded six consecutive base hits in the third inning. He struck out five, allowing seven hits.
Marrero led all batters with three hits, while Walcott and Chavez both collected two hits. Chavez singled in the first inning, doubled in the second, added an RBI ground out in the seventh and walked for an RBI in the eighth.
Notes to know
-Jones' grand slam and Marrero's double were both on 0-2 pitches. In total, seven of the Riders' 12 hits came with two strikes.
-Walcott is on a 10-game hitting streak, batting .385 (15-for-39) with a triple, home run, eight RBIs and three steals.
-Frainyer Chavez is on an 11-game hitting streak, hitting .409 (18-for-44)/.479/.550/1.029.
-Sam Haggerty began a rehab assignment with the RoughRiders. He flew out to center field three times and struck out once.
The RoughRiders face the Naturals at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, September 13th for the fifth game of the final six-game series of the year. RHP Daniel Missaki (0-5, 4.63) starts for the Riders against RHP Henry Williams (5-5, 3.84).
