Late Heroics Lift Shuckers to Comeback Win in Regular Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Down to their final strike, the Biloxi Shuckers (74-64, 32-37) reeled off three runs in a comeback, 3-2, win over the Birmingham Barons (81-57, 43-26) in the regular season finale on Sunday at Regions Field. With the win, the Shuckers finished the regular season with wins in eight of their final 12 games, including back-to-back series wins. The Shuckers also finished the regular season as the Southern League’s top offense with 639 runs, marking the first time in franchise history that the team has led the league in offense.
The Shuckers fell behind in the fourth with an RBI groundout from Caden Connor. In the sixth, Sam Antonacci doubled the Barons lead with a solo home run to right, making it 2-0. The Shuckers, down to their final out, got on the board when a wild pitch allowed Luke Adams to score from third. Later in the plate appearance, when Darrien Miller was down to his final strike, the Shuckers tied the game with an RBI single into left, scoring Mike Boeve from second. The next batter, Garrett Spain, gave the Shuckers a 3-2 lead with an RBI single into right-center.
Austin Roberts (4-0) earned the win and closed out the game with two strikeouts in the ninth, while Caleb Freeman (0-3) took the loss for the Barons. Manuel Rodriguez, in his Double-A debut, allowed two runs in 6.0 innings, struck out four and did not allow a walk. Rodriguez also became the youngest pitcher to appear in a game in franchise history.
The Shuckers will begin the 2025 Southern League Playoffs on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. against the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium in game one of the best-of-three Southern League Division Series.
