Kernels end Sky Carp season with 7-1 victory

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Sky Carp’s fantastic season came to a close Friday night in Cedar Rapids.

The Carp fell 7-1 to the Kernels in a winner-take-all game three of the Midwest League Western Division Finals.

The Kernels advance to take on the Eastern Division Champion West Michigan Whitecaps beginning Sunday afternoon.

The game was essentially decided in the first inning. The Carp opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single to right field by Wilfredo Lara to plate Aiva Arquette.

The single came after a 50-minute delay after the Stadium lost power following a blown transformer just beyond right field.

The Kernels responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth, thanks in large part to three defensive miscues by the Carp.

Although they would threaten a few more times, the Sky Carp failed to score for the remainder of the game while the Kernels added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Carson Laws and Justin Storm were terrific out of the bullpen, posting scoreless outings.

The Sky Carp will play their first home game in 2026 on Tuesday, April 7 against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
