Veterans Memorial Stadium opened in April 2002 as the third home for professional baseball in Cedar Rapids. With seating for 5,300 fans plus standing room areas, the stadium features 12 diamond suites and three picnic areas. The six-story LED video scoreboard in right-center field brings you live action, instant replays, player stats, and game information on its 30 x 48-foot display.
Weโve designed the stadium with fan comfort in mind. Premier and Club seating areas feature box-style seats with cup holders, while our spacious 32-foot wide main concourse keeps things moving smoothly on busy game nights. Multiple concession stands mean shorter lines, and closed-circuit TVs at each stand keep you connected to the action while you grab your ballpark treats.
We take great pride in the quality of our playing surface, which consistently ranks among the best in the Midwest League. Head Groundskeeper Jesse Roeder and his crew maintain a premium Kentucky Bluegrass surface on a sand-based foundation, mowing several times each week with specialized reel mowers to ensure a fast, consistent, and visually outstanding field that meets the highest standards for professional baseball.
Since 2008, we've partnered with ULTRALawn for preventative treatments, pest control, and seasonal maintenance that keep the field healthy and resilient through Iowa's hot summers and our busy schedule. Itโs one of the many behind-the-scenes efforts that help ensure top-level play all season long.
Planning for this stadium began in the mid-1990s to replace the original Veterans Memorial Stadium (now our main parking lot), which served us from 1949 through 2001. Since opening, we've hosted the Midwest League All-Star Game in 2004 and 2016, the American Legion World Series in 2006, and starting in 2019, the NCAA Division III Baseball World Series. With concerts, high school games, and amateur baseball, we welcome over 250,000 visitors annually for more than 80 events.
Cedar Rapids baseball history dates back to Hill Park, located north of what is now Roosevelt Middle School, where professional baseball was played until the outbreak of World War II in 1942.
The Kernels and Cedar Rapids Ball Club, Inc., are excited to welcome you to Veterans Memorial Stadium!
